The History Of Sleeping Giant Heating & Air Serving Our Community Since 1963.

How We Started

For more than 59 years, spanning three generations, Sleeping Giant Heating and Cooling has been serving the needs of Childersburg and the surrounding areas.

Founder Walter Butler began his heating and cooling career in 1956, working for 50 cents an hour for Hardy Refrigeration. He founded Sleeping Giant Heating and Cooling in 1963 as its first and only employee.

Over the years, his business grew based on a simple philosophy: treat people fairly and honestly and they will remain customers long term. They will also recommend you to their friends and family. And that’s exactly what happened.

How We Grew

As Walter’s family grew, so did his business. Sons, Danny and Tim Butler, grew up in the heating and air business. You might say it’s in their blood. Together, they have over 50 years of combined experience. After their father’s retirement, Danny and Tim became partners in the business. In 2021, Danny became the sole owner of Sleeping Giant after Tim’s retirement.
